It appears i'm wrong on how it works, sorry for the misdirect.

If you've watched videos, the performance is not worth the hassle. If I really want to play gc/wii, I'll use an emulator on my pc, or use a real wii which I got for ~$30 many years ago.

I've just had the exact same problem this morning and thought I was going mad!

This is actually a great feature as it provides further protection against guests inadvertantly entering it even after applying Kiosk mode.

Hm, that may be something new. If you disable the audio for video, do you still get the crash with omxplayer ?

I couldn't reproduce this in my new installation from the official image before the update. In fact, I found out that it was not the videos that crashed, but the navigation sounds from Emulation Station! I did suspect the videos because any time I tried to move to another game in the list, the system froze so hard that only the Magic SysReq keys REISUB or a hard reset could help.

I'll post my further findings in the thread Failed to find mixer elements… since they are definately off-topic here now.

No, hardware acceleration is used by default.

And does OMX have any advantages left over VLC?

Yes, it's still faster than VLC with HW acceleration in EmulationStation.

Retroarch 1.8.7 has been released yesterday, hopefully this issue is fixed now.

I've had this problem recently with Legend of Mana for psx. It was the controller type that was set to analog, but the game refused to work until I changed it back to standard and restarted it. Some cores/games are a bit finicky with analog controllers and how they're configured, in my experience. Try messing with that option to see if solves you problem.

@comegetsome sdltrs has been recently updated and it should be available on the Pi4 again. Just update your RetroPie-Setup script and then you can install it.

Try installing the xpadneo [1] driver and re-do the configuration for the controller - pair it via Bluetooth and configure it in EmulationStation.
